Biography

Dominik Steiger (1940, Vienna, Austria – 2014,Vienna, Austria) was an Austrian artist, poet, and writer. His work spanned literature, visual art, and performance, positioning him as a key figure in the avant-garde movement. Steiger’s artistic approach blended text, image, and experimental forms, often pushing the limits of traditional creative disciplines. In 974, he collaborated with Francesco Conz and Edizioni Pari & Dispari (Reggio Emilia) to produce “Idioeidetischer Letterfrack”, a project that merged language and visual composition, reflecting his innovative engagement with conceptual and experimental art. The edition included contributions from Christian Ludwig Attersee, Günter Brus, Giuseppe Desiato, Hermann Nitsch, Arnulf Rainer, Gerhard Rühm, Dieter Roth, and Oswald Wiener. Steiger remained deeply connected to avant-garde circles, contributing significantly to experimental literature, visual art, and conceptual publishing. His multidisciplinary practice and radical engagement with form and language continue to influence artists working across genres today.
