Erika Stocker (1938 Linz, Austria) Erika Stocker, born in Linz in 1938, is a notable Austrian artist recognized for her contributions to the Viennese Actionism movement. Her artistic journey is closely intertwined with that of Otto Muehl, a co-founder of the movement. Between 1962 and 1970, Muehl and Stocker engaged in a profound correspondence, resulting in the "Erika Briefe" ("Letters to Erika"), which offer an intimate chronicle of the evolution of Viennese Actionism and Muehl's artistic development. Their collaboration extended beyond letters; in 1961, they co-created an artwork titled "Otto Muehl / Erika Stocker," a mixed-media piece incorporating materials such as wood, wire, and textiles. The artwork was auctioned at Dorotheum in Vienna in November 2024. Stocker's partnership with Muehl significantly influenced her artistic trajectory, positioning her as a key figure within Viennese Actionism. Her contributions continue to be recognized in exhibitions and auctions, reflecting her enduring impact on contemporary art.
