Biography

Loriana Castano is an Italian contemporary artist whose work explores themes of intimacy, perception, and the poetic potential of minimal forms. Her practice spans installation, object-based art, and visual composition, often drawing attention to the quiet, overlooked dimensions of everyday life. In 2009, Castano presented the project Universo minimo at Villa Cernigliaro in Sordevolo, a site known for hosting experimental and interdisciplinary artistic interventions. The installation offered a meditative environment in which small-scale elements and delicate spatial arrangements encouraged viewers to slow down and reconsider the boundaries of presence and absence. Her work is characterized by restraint and precision—often grounded in a tactile sensibility that emphasizes the materiality of space, language, and memory. While operating somewhat outside the mainstream spotlight, Castano’s art has circulated through exhibitions and has appeared in curated sales, including a 2018 presentation at Studio d’Arte Borromeo, where one of her untitled pieces was offered to collectors. Castano continues to share her work through digital platforms, maintaining a dialogue with a wider public and participating in the broader conversation around contemporary Italian art. Her practice reflects a commitment to subtlety and depth, inviting viewers into what she calls a universe of the minimal—where meaning emerges through quiet attentiveness and poetic form.
