Biography

Marko Pogačnik (1944 in Jesenice, Slovenia) is a Slovenian artist, sculptor, and geologist whose work blends art, nature, and spiritual themes. A key figure in the Earth Art movement, Pogačnik is known for his innovative approach to the environment, which combines natural materials, sacred geometry, and spiritual principles. His art is deeply connected to the Earth, exploring the energetic qualities of landscapes and the relationship between humans and the natural world. One of his most notable projects is the "Land Art", which he began in the 1970s. This series of earth-based sculptures often involved creating monumental works directly within the landscape, using stones, wood, and other natural elements to enhance the site’s spiritual or energetic properties. He is also known for his "Healing Earth" installations, where he used sculptures to activate and harmonize the energy of specific locations, particularly in places of cultural or historical significance. Pogačnik has exhibited widely in Europe and beyond, with his works featured in galleries and outdoor installations across Slovenia, Austria, Germany, and the United States. One of his significant exhibitions was at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, where he displayed his pioneering work in the intersection of environmentalism and art. In addition to his visual art practice, Pogačnik is an advocate for geocultural healing and has written extensively on the relationship between art, earth, and spirit. His work continues to inspire contemporary artists and environmental activists who focus on the connection between human consciousness and the natural environment.
