Pierre Garnier (1928, Amiens, France- 2014, Saisseval, France) was an influential French poet and a key figure in the field of spatial and concrete poetry. His innovative approach to poetry emphasized the visual and spatial aspects of language, reshaping the relationship between words, meaning, and form. Garnier's literary career is closely connected to his partnership with Ilse Garnier, whom he met in 1950 and later married. Their collaboration greatly contributed to the growth of spatial poetry, a movement that sought to explore language beyond traditional structures by integrating text, visual imagery, and physical space. Through their joint efforts, Pierre and Ilse Garnier developed unique poetic compositions, enriching the avant-garde literary scene of the post-war period. In addition to his poetic creations, Pierre Garnier was respected as an editor and scholar, nurturing and promoting experimental voices within French literature.
