Biography

Harry Ruhé ( 1947, Amsterdam, Netherlands)is a Dutch gallerist, curator, and author recognized for his work in promoting Fluxus and avant-garde art. Through his exhibitions, publications, and dedication to artist multiples, he has played an essential role in documenting and preserving experimental art movements. His career has been dedicated to curating, publishing, and distributing Fluxus-related works, ensuring their visibility in both artistic and academic circles. In Amsterdam, he founded Galerie A, a space committed to showcasing avant-garde artists associated with Fluxus, conceptual art, and experimental practices. The gallery became known for hosting exhibitions, performances, and events that encouraged engagement with Fluxus ideas of art as an everyday experience. In addition, he established Multiples, a platform that distributes limited-edition artist works, publications, and Fluxus-related objects, making these pieces accessible to collectors, institutions, and researchers. Ruhé has written extensively on Fluxus, offering historical insights and personal recollections of key artists and events. His publications include "25 Fluxus Stories" (1999), a book that presents anecdotes and reflections on Fluxus figures such as George Brecht, Stanley Brouwn, and George Maciunas; "Fluxus: The Most Radical and Experimental Art Movement of the Sixties" (1979), which examines the impact of Fluxus on contemporary art; and "A Fluxus Story: 1981 - Aki Fluxfest - 2021" (2021), which revisits a historic Fluxus festival in Enschede. He was Francesco Conz’s close friend and collaborator m they both shared a passion for Fluxus and avant-garde and have been working on Fluxus for years. Through his gallery work, publications, and curatorial efforts, Ruhé has contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of Fluxus and avant-garde practices. His dedication has ensured that the legacy of experimental and interdisciplinary art continues to influence contemporary artistic discourse.
